Summer Camp

Troop 20 attends summer camp at the Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan Scout Reservation or Camp Tesomas Scout Camp, both located in Northern Wisconsin. Each summer, boys and girls attend either camp, with the groups alternating camps each summer.

The Troop attends for two one-week sessions in the late summer.  Our weeks are the last week of July and the week that includes July/August.  In 2018, that was Sunday, July 22 to Saturday, July 28 and then Sunday 7/29 to Saturday, 8/4.

The cost to camp in 2018 was $360/week or $720 for two weeks.  That cost includes camping, food, activities, and troop activities as well as transportation.  (Some merit badges like leatherwork have modest materials purchase requirements.)

Summer camp presents an excellent opportunity for scouts to earn merit badges.

Second-year scouts focus on merit badges; Swimming and Lifesaving (both Eagle-required) are both taught at summer camp, and can be a bit challenging to earn outside of summer camp.

First-year scouts often opt for the “trailblazer” program, which helps them fulfill key requirements for advancement through 1st class.

Boys can go for either week or both weeks.

Planning e-mails begin circulating in February.  New scouts are particularly encouraged (but certainly not required) to attend.
