Service and Troop 20

The Scout Oath, taken by each scout upon joining and repeated at every meeting, has at its core the promise “to help other people at all times.” Since 1927, Troop 20 has instilled this pledge to service as a guiding tenet. The young men of Troop 20 regularly dedicate themselves to help others however possible: creating Eagle Scout projects that improve our community in ways large and small, assisting in civic events, cleaning and maintaining the area’s natural landscapes, and donating both time and money to area charities. In the current scouting year Troop 20 will embark on a pilot program assisting area institutions that strive to alleviate food insecurity. Scouts will educate themselves and each other about the issues involved in food insecurity, make and gather donations, deliver items to local shelters, food pantries, and community kitchens, and participate in programs that help feed the needy locally and worldwide.
Troop 20 and the New Trier Food Pantry

Over 100 New Trier Township families regularly use the New Trier Food Pantry to stretch their budgets for food and household necessities. NTFP estimates between 200 to 300 children are assisted regularly, children our scouts sit next to in the classroom, play alongside on sports teams, perhaps consider best friends. The Pantry assists families who find themselves in need because of sudden illness, divorce, displacement, job loss; any of a number of unforeseen incidents that befall hard-working Americans in all walks of life. During times of recent economic hardship, the pantry has served upwards of 350 families.

If your family makes charitable donations, please consider the New Trier Food Pantry. Every dollar donated goes directly to buying food and items at cost or below from local merchants who themselves donate generously in whatever ways they can. A 501c-3 organization, a check made out to New Trier Food Pantry is 100% tax deductible and provides the greatest possible impact on your neighborhood.
